I just wanted to ask if u could explain how it works with solar, with the new announcement re the reduced rebates I have been hearing different things about how it will affect us.
Q. So the reduction to 8c is this the stc that has been reduced ie what u get as a discount on the system or is it a reduced amount energex will pay people for their solar generated electricity?
A. You will get a minimum of .44c from your retailer ie origin, AGL, ect. until 2028 which is the feed into the grid export rate.
STC is federal discount and they have been reduced but are still available..
Q. We are with Origin so do energy companies agree an amount per kilowatt or do they all pay different.
Origin also announced increased fees so does this mean we are better to move energy companies?
A. They all pay different on all the tariff rates. Feed in range from .44c to .55c a few phone calls you could negotiate a better deal
Q. Also someone said we will still get the higher rate from the government however if we ever sell the house the new buyer will only get the 8 c is this true?
A. Yes true but it is possible the new tennate may be able to negotiate a better feed in rate with their retailer.
Q. Are we guaranteed a certain amount forever or could the government take the rebates away at any time?
A. They would have to change legislation and riots may occur. Guaranteed until 2028
Q. I was also told that if we are home during the day and use electricity we will use our own generated power first then if there is anything left we sell the remaining to the grid? Is this correct?
A. Yes correct so best to have all standby items and appliances off and run pool pump at night time so as to export as much as possible if you are on the .44cent feed in rate.
Q. With the off peak pool pump and solar is there a time that is best to use electricity are we better off using it after a certain time on an evening
ie setting off the dishwasher or washer on an evening or before a certain time on a morning. What are the times we need to use electricity between to minimize the bill?
A. When the sun is shining use as less applances as possible to maximise export if you are on the .44cent feed in tariff, if your on the .06c tariff use your appliances and pool pump during the day.
